IS YOUR CARPET MAKING YOU UNHAPPY? HOW TO KNOW WHEN IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE

How often should your carpet be replaced?
There are a number of things that can have an impact on the lifespan of your carpet. From how trafficked the area is to its material and quality – but eventually there will come a time when your carpet needs a replacing.

Five easy ways to know when it’s time to change your carpet
Over the years we have fitted hundreds of carpets. In that time, we’ve come across plenty that have been tired and damaged looking but what are the most tell-tale signs that your carpet is past its best?

Muddy footprint stains on carpet

Stains
Whether you have some enthusiastic little ones running around the house, pets or have simply had a spill – even the tidiest home will be subject to accidental damage over time. While it’s true that many marks can be cleaned out and removed entirely, eventually your carpet will build stains which are impossible to shift. When this happens, it can affect the overall aesthetic of your carpet – and may eventually lead to you shopping for a new one.

Smelly
Damp, pets, old age and household conditions can all play a part in the state of your carpet. If you have ever experienced a smelly carpet before, then you will also be aware that odours can be incredibly difficult to eradicate. Depending on the cause, you could end up with a smell that just won’t shift – in which case it may be time to say goodbye to your old carpet.

Outdated
There’s nothing wrong with changing a perfectly good carpet simply because it no longer suits your style – and that brings us on to number three. Trends come and go, and our tastes adapt with the times, so it’s no surprise that many people find themselves falling out of love with their carpet for no other reason that it no longer fits in with their décor.

Worn spots
Even the best quality carpets can become worn over time. This is especially true if you have a busy household where people are coming and going all day every day. While it is possible to repair worn spots on a carpet, this can take time, and may not be worth the effort if your carpet is particularly old.

Matting
Depending on the style and length of your carpet, you could struggle with regular matting. This occurs when dirt and moisture get into the fibres causing a matting of the material which sticks together.

If kept on top of, this can be relatively straight forward to maintain, however a neglected carpet can become increasingly more matted over time and may eventually become too damaged to fix.
